Gemma’s Story
At 20 months old, BBP Gemma suddenly stopped walking. After more than two months of tests and uncertainty, she was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia shortly after her second birthday in December.
Gemma began treatment with remarkable courage and resilience. As her beautiful hair began to fall out, Gemma never seemed to notice a difference in herself. At just two years old, she continued to laugh, play, and see herself as the same beautiful princess she had always been.
Losing her hair was more emotional for Mom and Dad than it was for Gemma, but they never let it change the way they saw her.
While having her head shaved, her three-year-old brother walked up, gently patted her head, and said, “Gemma, I love your new haircut.”
To Gemma’s family and friends, her beauty was never in her hair. It lives in her bright smile, joyful spirit, and the incredible strength she shows every day.
