LuisCataleya’s Story

I was diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan Anemia when I was nine years old. In March of 2022, I started feeling sick, thinking it was just a cold or the flu. But when I began to lose my balance, my mom took me to the ER. That’s when we discovered my hemoglobin was dangerously low, and I was diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan Anemia. From that moment on, I began receiving regular blood transfusions and treatment while we explored the possibility of a bone marrow transplant.

I was fortunate to find out that my brother was a 100% match to be my donor. On July 3, 2024, I underwent my transplant. We are hopeful that it will be a success and that I will no longer need blood transfusions in the future, and will have a healthier life ahead.
